Description

Lectures will focus on major cardiovascular diseases including vascular diseases, hypertension, myocardial infarction and heart failure. For each type of pathology, the definition and symptoms will be provided and the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms will be developed. Different experimental models of these cardiovascular diseases will be presented and their relevance to the human disease discussed. The mechanism of action of the present pharmacological treatments and their major side effects will be developed. Moreover, novel targets for drug development will be presented.
Tutorials will focus on novel targets for the treatment of these cardiovascular diseases based on published articles using experimental models of cardiovascular diseases.
 

Compétences visées

Knowledge of pathophysiological mechanisms involved in the development of major cardiovascular diseases, relevance and limitation of actual and future treatment targets and of experimental models of cardiovascular diseases.
 

Modalités d'organisation et de suivi

• 20 h teaching and 30 h tutorial sessions, encouraging multidisciplinary and cultural exchanges.
• Teaching slides, including those from tutorials, and when possible recordings will be provided.
• Evaluation: First session: Written exam: 90 min based on the analysis of data of an experimental study on a cardiovascular disease (2/3%) + oral presentation and discussion of a published article by a group of students (1/3%). Second session: oral examination.
